LeafWiki v0.14.0 is out. Thank you all for using it, filing issues, and supporting the project.
And a special thank you to everyone sponsoring LeafWiki via GitHub Sponsors and Ko-fi. ๐
“I just want to read the PDF, not download it”
Link a PDF in a page and it now renders inline, right where you put it.
Only PDFs served by your own instance are embedded. External PDFs, and PDFs on mobile where inline viewers are unreliable, show a file card with an open button instead. That keeps the page readable everywhere without pulling in content from other sites.
“Our team doesn’t all read English or German”
The UI now ships in French and Simplified Chinese, next to English, German and Spanish. Each user picks their own language in Account Settings.
Both arrived as contributions. The locale files are plain per-feature JSON, so adding a language stays a self-contained pull request.
“Where was that word on the page?”
Opening a search result now scrolls straight to the first match. Search also no longer fails on punctuation or unusual query syntax, so pasting a sentence with a comma into the search box just works.
Admins can also set the table of contents to always show, for the whole instance.
Git backup
LEAFWIKI_GIT_BACKUP_PATH lets you choose where the backup repository lives on disk. Backup runs with nothing new to commit are much faster: objects that already exist are no longer rewritten. On a 300 MB test wiki, a run without changes went from about 20 seconds to about 2.
Heads-up: behavior changes
Most of this release is hardening, and three of those changes are visible:
- Uploaded files other than images, PDF, audio and video are downloaded instead of opened in the browser. That covers
.svg,.txt,.md,.csv,.jsonand.htmlattachments. SVGs embedded as images still render. This hardens how uploaded files are served. - Changing a password ends that user’s other sessions. Other devices are signed out once their current access token expires, 15 minutes by default.
- Admins change their own password in Account Settings, not in User Management.
Further highlights
- Ambiguous
[[Title]]links are no longer reported as broken - Full backups now include the public-access and TOC settings
- Mermaid diagrams recover after a redeploy instead of failing to load
- Pasting tables from LibreOffice or Word no longer adds stray blank lines
- A Kubernetes deployment example in the docs
Thanks to @richardmilles, @Hugo-Galley, @lboehm, @jochumdev, and @yuyami-ya for contributing to this release. Contributions like these are what make LeafWiki better than one person could build alone.
v0.14.0 grew bigger than planned, which is part of why the next releases will be smaller and come more often.
